Communications Subcommittee Annual Report 2014-2015

The Communications Subcommittee coordinates and oversees the various communication activities of the Glebe Society including the Bulletin, websites and social media (such as Facebook and Twitter).
Environment Policy 2015

The Constitution of the Glebe Society includes amongst its objects to improve the amenity of Glebe by making Glebe a cleaner and healthier environment and to preserve and enhance the natural and architectural character of Glebe.
In keeping with these objects, the Glebe Society is committed to improving, preserving and enhancing the following aspects of the natural environment.
Planning Policy 2014

The Society’s constitution includes the following in its objectives opposing (by lawful means) development detrimental to heritage values or contrary to community interests and to preserve and enhance the natural and architectural character of Glebe, and to encourage sound town planning, architectural and conservation practices.
Bulletin Editorial Policy

The role of The Glebe Society Bulletin is to act as a primary means of communication with the membership and others by publishing: news about the activities of the Society, the Society’s views on issues of the day, which usually will be published as articles by the President, or relevant sub-committee convenor; news and notices about other events that are relevant to the aims and objectives of the Society, the views of members on issues of the day, usually as letters to the editor, and material submitted by other members of the community
Subcommittee Financial Arrangement Policy

Subcommittees may spend and raise money only with the express approval of the Management Committee. When planning a project which may involve expenditure of Glebe Society funds the subcommittee should estimate the approximate amount involved as early as possible and seek Management Committee approval in principle.
Auspicing policy

Auspicing, which refers to an arrangement whereby an unincorporated organisation or group of organisations seeks the Society’s support in applying for a grant from an organisation that will only make grants to incorporated bodies, may be authorised by the Management Committee.
The Society will only agree to auspice a grant application if it is an active participant in the activity for which the grant is sought. When the Society agrees to auspice a grant application it is responsible to ensure the grant money is spent and accounted for properly.
Advertising Policy

This policy covers all Glebe Society publications (including printed and electronic versions of the Bulletin, the Glebe Society website and social media). This policy should be read in conjunction with the Society’s Bulletin editorial policy and website editorial policy.
Delegation of Authority Policy

This policy sets out how subcommittees are formed and delegations assigned. By mandating an annual renewal and formal statements of what subcommittees do, we impose some discipline and some reflection on our subcommittee’s activities – which is where most of the Society’s work is done.

Heritage Policies

The Glebe Society’s constitution includes opposing developments detrimental to our heritage conservation values, preserving and enhancing the natural and architectural character of Glebe by encouraging the protection of heritage in town planning, architectural and conservation practices, promoting an interest in heritage conservation and appropriate maintenance practices, and stimulating interest in the historical character of Glebe by encouraging research into the history of the area.
Bays and Foreshores Policy

This policy has been developed to provide The Glebe Society Incorporated with a single mechanism for responding to proposed developments/activities on the bays, on the adjacent foreshores in Glebe, and on foreshores outside Glebe but which impact on Glebe.
Events Policy

A significant way the Glebe Society promotes the objects of its Constitution is by organising a variety of events and activities throughout the year. A number are free and open to the wider community. However most are fee paying functions that raise funds to ensure the financial viability of the Society.
Management of Assets Policy

The Asset Management Policy covers all fixed and intangible assets owned by The Glebe Society. It covers the full life of the asset including acquisition, depreciation, enhancement & modification and disposal.
Donation-Financial Assistance Policy

From time to time the Society receives requests for financial assistance from individuals or other Organisations.
Report of Annual General Meeting 2013

About 40 members attended the Glebe Society’s AGM on Sunday 25 August, in the beautifully renovated Glebe Town Hall. They were welcomed by our President, John Gray, who pointed out that the meetings in 1969 which led to the establishment of the Glebe Society were also held in our Town Hall.

Members are cordially invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Society will be held at the Glebe Town Hall, St Johns Road, Glebe, Sunday 25th August from 11.00 am till 1.00 pm. In addition to the usual business activities of the AGM, we are pleased to announce that there will be an address by Corinne Fisher (Better Planning Network) has accepted our invitation to speak to members following the conclusion of the formal agenda. Her topic will be ‘Fighting for Community Influence’.
Cheque Signing and Internet Payment policy

The Annual General Meeting of the Glebe Society will be held at Benledi (next to the Library in Glebe Point Road) at 11am on Sunday, 29 August. The formal proceedings will be followed by a guest speaker and light refreshments. All members welcome! The Guest Speaker will be Dr Stewart Condon, Medecins sans Frontieres.
Glebe Society AGM – Honorary Life Memberships awarded – 30th August 2009

The 40th AGM of The Glebe Society Inc. was held on Saturday 30th August at Benledi. It was very well attended – in fact the meeting room was filled to capacity. One of the highlights of the meeting was the awarding of Honorary Life Memberships to two members, Liz Simpson-Booker and Eric Sandblom, as well as a Glebe Society Commendation to Bobbie Burke.
