Government response on Bays planning ‘belated and depressing’

On 5 February the Minister for Planning Tony Kelly belatedly released his response to the community consultation on the future of the Bays Precinct. The report was slipped out without fanfare. It is too late to be of any significance in the life of this Government. And most depressingly, its proposed planning principles for the Bays are bland and weak where they most need to be tight and strong.

A Major Project Assessment was opened for exhibition on 02 February and will close on 04 March 2011. Essentially, it is for the redevelopment of the land-based component of the Sydney Superyacht Marina. Tony Larkum, Convenor of the Bays and Foreshores Sub-committee, will coordinate and prepare a response from the Glebe Society. Glebe Society members are encouraged to also submit individual submissions.

Glebe Society members and their friends are invited to a Community Picnic in Wentworth Park, in the middle of the Blackwattle Bay side of the viaduct, on Sunday 27th February from 5 to 8 pm. to celebrate completion of a major stage in reclaiming Wentworth Park for residents of Glebe, Pyrmont and Ultimo.

Australia Post has confirmed that it will not bow to community pressure to maintain a proper post office in Glebe by issuing the following news release on 1 February 2011. The campaign to retain Glebe Post Office (POGA) is considering what further actions are open to it.
