Where are we? And what on earth is going on? Please send your suggestions to history@glebesociety.org.au
Find out the answer to July’s mystery photo.
And the answer is…
It’s 1947 and skipper Doug Brockhoff is loading his yacht onto a trailer in preparation for a day’s sailing.
The photo was taken near his family’s Sydney Flour Mill on the Broadway/Glebe Point Road intersection.
See the story of the Brockhoff bakers.
John Lagerlow, Karin Kolbe, Janice Challinor and others identified the location.

I think they’re outside old flour mill near intersection of Glebe Pt Rd & Broadway.
My cousin said that a large snake, possibly a python, used to reside there, possibly for rat control.
It looks like they’re installing some type of duct-work.
Hi Lyn, You gave a few clues this time. The site is clearly the at the corner of Glebe Pt Rd & Broadway. The shop with 261 on it has the same exterior but is less scientific now, being a brothel. I guessed the decade from the vehicles & clothing. Trove helped me with the rest. The newspaper article is:
Daily Telegraph Sydney Monday 3 March 1947
MOBILE cranes removing a 10-ton yacht from a factory in Broadway, where the yacht was built. She was taken to Blackwattle Bay and launched.
It’s astonishing that such a large object could be built in an ordinary looking shop.
