Glebe Society Christmas Party – 7th December
Posted on 10th November 2012Join us for the 2012 Glebe Society Christmas Party. This year’s Party will be held at the new St Barnabas Church (Barney’s), Mountain Street, Broadway. The Upper Foyer is a beautiful architect designed venue, part of the new Barneys created on the site of the church building destroyed by fire in 2006.

Bernard Smith – Symposium & Wake – 9th November
Posted on 5th November 2012Bernard Smith was one of the founders of The Glebe Society in 1969. He and his wife Kate were responsible for the definitive book on Glebe heritage – “The Architectural Character of Glebe”. He was an eminent art historian, writer, professor of fine arts at the University of Sydney, and a beloved member of the Glebe Society. We invite all members and non-members to attend an event to celebrate Bernard and Kate Smith’s contribution to ensuring the continued existence of Glebe in face of the threat to bulldoze us out of existence in favour of a free-way.
Glebe Music Festival – 9th Nov to 2nd Dec

Cockatoo Island guided tour – Sunday 4th November

Date: Sunday 4th November, guided tour starts at 11.45 a.m. Bookings essential, cost is $20 per person. Bookings required by 15th October.

The David Mander-Jones memorial tree
Posted on 10th September 2012In June 2012 in the presence of Fay-Mander Jones and many other members of his family, Glebe colleagues and old Lindfield neighbours, an Angophera was planted in Glebe’s Paddy Gray Reserve in grateful memory of David Mander-Jones who died during in late 2011 and was the much-loved first convenor of the Blue Wren Group.

Terms of Reference for Subcommittees – request for feedback
Posted on 15th August 2012Each of the Sub-Committees of the Glebe Society needs to have its own Terms of Reference (policy), and we invite your comment on the terms of reference for each of our Subcommittees so we can take your views into account before the Management Committee considers these for endorsement at the Management meeting of 12th September. The Terms of Reference for each Subcommittee can be found below. The first document listed outlines the Glebe Society’s own policy regards its Subcommittees and their Delegations. Reponses should be sent to the President or the Secretary by 5th September 2012.

Frank Hurley – a Lecture/Entertainment – 16th Sep
Posted on 1st August 2012As part of History Week, Robert Dixon, Professor of Australian Literature at the University of Sydney, who has recently published a book about Hurley’s shows, will provide his own “synchronised lecture entertainment” in Glebe, the suburb where Hurley was born in 1885. Date: Sunday 16th September, 5.30pm till 7.30pm. Bookings are essential.
Thirsty Thursday – Lien restaurant – 2nd August
Posted on 20th July 2012Members and friends are invited to meet in restaurants in and around Glebe, usually on the first Thursday of each month at 7pm, to eat and talk with other people who live in Glebe. We visit a different restaurant each month, with varying cuisines. Our next event will be on Thursday 2nd August when we will share a meal at Lien restaurant, 331 Glebe Point Road.
Guided Walking Tours for New Members
