And the answer is ….  (June 2023)

Ann Elias thought the mystery photo might be a stretch of Glebe Point Rd near Gleebooks. The location is 143-149 Glebe Point Rd, and the businesses are a radio sales and service, men’s and women’s pressing shop and a hardware shop and plumber.  Tram tracks can be seen at the bottom right of the photo. Trams were still running on 28 October 1953 when the photo was taken.
