An illustrated talk by Grahame Budd: Mawson’s four Antarctic expeditions – and Beyond. A repeat of Grahame’s popular and fascinating talk on Mawson, with new material on Australia’s work in Antarctica since World War II, bringing the story up to the present time.

Cocktails, art auction. Friends of Centipede is being set up to provide financial support for Centipede, the before and after school care at Glebe Public School.

The Glebe Society is organising a ferry trip to Cockatoo Island with a guided tour of the heritage industrial architecture that remains on the island from its ship-building days. Date: Sunday 4th November, guided tour starts at 11.45 a.m. Bookings essential, cost is $20 per person. Bookings required by 15th October.

As part of History Week, Robert Dixon, Professor of Australian Literature at the University of Sydney, who has recently published a book about Hurley’s shows, will provide his own “synchronised lecture entertainment” in Glebe, the suburb where Hurley was born in 1885. Date: Sunday 16th September, 5.30pm till 7.30pm. Bookings are essential.

Members and friends are invited to meet in restaurants in and around Glebe, usually on the first Thursday of each month at 7pm, to eat and talk with other people who live in Glebe. We visit a different restaurant each month, with varying cuisines. Our next event will be on Thursday 2nd August when we will share a meal at Lien restaurant, 331 Glebe Point Road.

A Glebe Local Maker’s Market will be held on Sunday 2nd September, 2pm till 5pm. It is an opportunity for local Glebe people to show and sell their own handmade arts, crafts and produce. A joint initiative of the St John’s Centre, Glebe Assistance Partnership Program & the Starving Artists Collective Inc. Venue: St John’s Centre, 132 St Johns Road, Glebe.

The event will be held on Friday 13th July at 6pm till 8pm, at the Harold Park Hotel, with some fun entertainment planned for the evening. $20 per head, but no charge for new members.
