WALK WHERE NO CARS CAN FOLLOW – “POCKET PARKS” WALK, GLEBE. What do ballerinas, the Charge of the Light Brigade, and Benedictine monks have in common? Find out when Neil Macindoe and Anton Crouch lead you on the new Pocket Parks Walk on Tuesday, 16 August at 10 am or Sunday, 21 August at 3 pm.

HopeStreet is planning a mid-winter luncheon on Tuesday 26th July, at Uniting (Café) Church, 37 St John’s Road. HopeStreet has secured funding to provide a lunch for approximately 70 people from the Glebe Estate. The organisers are in need of some volunteers to help with the running of the event, for about 2-3 hrs of your time.

Last October many Glebe Society members who went on our first Waratah cruise missed out on the launch of Anne Wark’s book Armour of Light in St James Church. Anne has kindly invited members of the Glebe Society to a ‘relaunch’ at St James church, Woolley Street, on Saturday 14 May at 1.30pm. There will be a cup of tea or coffee to follow.

As part of its 120th anniversary celebrations, Ultimo College (part of TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute) is giving lovers of history and architecture the chance to join small personal tours of its historical campus. These FREE “Walking Through History” tours will run monthly from 5 April until 6 December, 12.15pm until 1.30pm. Taking about 60 minutes, the tour is filled with interesting anecdotes of the times, of politics and past students and will be led by expert historian, Norm Neill.

Ann Wark, a local resident, has carefully researched the stained glass windows of St James Catholic Church, Forest Lodge, and has written a book on it. The book will be launched on Sunday 31st October 2010 at St James Church. Members of the Glebe Society are invited to attend.

The Annual General Meeting of the Glebe Society will be held at Benledi (next to the Library in Glebe Point Road) at 11am on Sunday, 29 August. The Glebe Society is hiring the 1902 vintage tugboat Waratah for a late afternoon ride around the local Bays, on Sunday 31st October. Unfortunately, this event has already booked out, and it has a waiting list. Given the level of interest, the Glebe Society will consider a repeat event, probably next year.
