Bulletin 6/2024, August

Dear Editor,

I would like to comment on the article ‘War and no peace – the never-ending saga of the Bridge Road cycleway’ published in last month’s Bulletin.

The article is difficult to read, but that’s the point! It provides a glimpse of the bureaucrats’ jumbled ideas as they attempt to put a cycleway on Bridge Road.

The Bridge Road cycleway was a dud from its beginning in 2020. As early as 2015 when the City of Sydney’s safety audit was conducted, it was clear that Bridge Road was the wrong road for a cycleway. It is an arterial road carrying 20,000 vehicle movements per day. Yet, the safe margin for mixed traffic and cycleways is 3,000 vehicles per day.

Thank you to ‘Bridge Road Friends’ and the Glebe Society for continuing to shine a light on the facts.

The thinking to choose Bridge Road for a cycleway was never good. Stop spending money on this! The money is needed elsewhere in NSW.
