To Create a New Walk
Log into Glebe Walks Admin.
Set Up the Walk
- In the left sidebar menu, click on Stops and then
- Click Walks
- Enter the name of the new Walk. (A “slug” will be created automatically.)
- Leave the Parent Category as “None”.
- Click Add//Upload Image and upload the image to be used as the icon on the map
(The icon should be 32 x 32 pixels.) - Click Add New Walk.
- The Walk will now appear as an entry on the main part of the page.
Edit Its Details
- Click on the title of Walk on the main part of the page
- Fill in the Walk Details (e.g. 3 kilometres with steep hills)
- Select the Path Colour for the map
Define the Path
- In the left sidebar menu, click on Stops and then
- Click Add Stop
- In the Edit Stop Screen, fill in the title of the Walk
- Skip the main text box.
- Enter the brief description of the Walk in the Excerpt box
- Skip the Revisions and Walk Stop Information boxes.
- In the Path Data box enter the co-ordinates* of every point on the walk, one per line in the format 151.123456,-33.123456,0.0
*To find Co-ordinates in Google Maps
- Locate the point whose co-ordinates you want in Google Maps.
- Right-click on that point.
- In the pop-up menu, select “What’s here?”
- The co-ordinates will be displayed in a box near the bottom of the screen.
- You can copy the co-ordinates by hand but it is easiest to:
- Click on the co-ordinates displayed in the box.
- The co-ordinates will appear in a panel at the left of the screen.
- Select and copy the co-ordinates.
- Google displays co-ordinates as latitude then longitude but Glebe Walks paths are defined by longitude then latitude and altitude. So you have to reformat them from -33.123456, 151.123456 to 151.123456,-33.123456 and add ,0.0
To Create a New Stop
Log into Glebe Walks Admin.
Set Up the Stop
- In the left sidebar menu, click on Stops and then
- Click Add Stop
- Enter the title of the Stop
- Describe the Stop in the main text box
- Provide a brief description of the Stop in the Excerpt text box
- In the Walk Stop Information box, enter the Co-ordinates of the Stop
See the instructions above to find the co-ordinates from Google Maps but note that the co-ordinates here are latitude then longitude, e.g. -33.123456, 151.123456 (unlike when specifying the path). - Skip the More Information Items and Path Data boxes.
- In the right-hand column,
- Tick the title of the Walk in the Walks list
- In the Order box, assign the number of the current stop in the Walk
- Scroll back up to the top of the column and click Publish.
Add Images
- In the left sidebar menu, click Media.
- Click Add New near the top of the page.
- Click Select Files and add an image from your computer.
- When the image is uploaded, click Media in the sidebar again.
- Click Attach in the Uploaded to column.
- In the pop-up, click the name of the Stop at which you want the image to appear.
- Repeat this for as many images as you want to appear in the slideshow at the top of the Stop’s page.
To Edit a Stop
Log into Glebe Walks Admin.
To Change the Text
- In the left sidebar menu, click on Stops and then All Stops.
- Click the title of the Stop you want to edit.
- Change the information in the text boxes as required.
- Click Update in the right sidebar.
To Remove Images
- In the left sidebar menu, click Media.
- Locate any image you want to remove.
- Either:
- To remove the image from a Walk or Stop page, click Detach under the name of the image in the Uploaded To column, or
- To remove the image from Glebe Walks completely, hover over the title in the File column and click Delete Permanently
More Info Pages and Links
Create a More Info Page
- In the left sidebar menu, click More Info Posts and then.
- Click Add More Info Item.
- Enter the Title of the item
- Give details of the Item in the main text box
- Provide a brief description of the item in the Excerpt text box.
- Note the Permalink (URL) from under the Title near the top of the screen
- Click Publish in the right hand column.
Add More Info Links
- In the left sidebar menu, click Stops and then.
- Click either All Stops or Walks and then the title of the Stop or Walk to which you want to add the Link.
- Scroll down to More Information Items in the Walk Stop Information box
- Enter a link to the More Info item in html in the following format:
- For a web page: <a href=”URL OF LINK” target=”_blank”>TITLE OF LINK</a>
e.g. <a href=”https://glebewalks.com.au/?tb_walk_more_info=italianate-style”>Italianate style</a> - For a publication: AUTHOR; <em>TITLE</em>; TITLE; DATE
e.g. Solling, M; <em>Grandeur & Grit: a History of Glebe</em>; Halstead Press; 2007
- For a web page: <a href=”URL OF LINK” target=”_blank”>TITLE OF LINK</a>
- If you have more than one More Info item, enter them on separate lines.
