Karin Kolbe, Phil Young, Eileen Canas and Sarah (surname unknown) identified the pictures in last month’s Bulletin 4 of 2022 as our past and present post offices.

The former building is untenanted in July 2022, while long queues outside the Post Office in the Broadway Shopping Centre are the norm.

The historic Glebe Post Office, dating from 1888, was privatised in February 2011. The story of the massive rally to save it is told in the article, Valé Glebe Post Office, in the Glebe Society’s Bulletin 1 of 2011.

Long gone is the Abattoirs Post Office on Glebe Island, pictured (far right) in 1890.
