The Glebe Society owes its success to a number of small groups that look after the many and varied interests of the Society. Each group is run by a convener. Some have only one or two members while others have 5-10 members. Some just ‘get on with it’ while others meet from time to time to consider various issues.
The groups report to the Society’s Management Committee through their conveners, and to members through the Bulletin and annually at the AGM. The convenor of each subcommittee is a member of the Management Committee.
Interested in joining a subcommittee or working group? See Committee and Contacts for the names and contact details of the convenors.
What the groups do
The following is a brief description of what each of our current subcommittees and working groups do.

The Blue Wren group undertakes practical action, liaises with the City of Sydney, undertakes educational activities and more. There is a particular focus on increasing the numbers of small birds in our area. |
Communications | The group oversees the Society’s communications with its members, stakeholders and the public through our various media channels, including the Bulletin, websites, YouTube and social media. Makes submissions on the impact of proposed developments, monitors local and state policies, plans and heritage controls on the architectural character of Glebe and Forest Lodge. Stimulates interest in the history of the area by undertaking and encouraging research, and by making it freely available. |
Planning | Our watchdog on all aspects of development in Glebe. Responsible for commenting on development applications (DAs), proposed Council and government planning instruments etc, at the same time recognising that appropriate development of new, especially social and affordable, housing is needed. |
Transport and Traffic | Traffic, pedestrian safety, public transport and active transport are all of great importance to residents of Glebe and Forest Lodge. Help put our case to the City of Sydney Council and state government. The restoration and reopening of Glebe Island Bridge for pedestrian and cyclists’ use is a focus. |
