Where are we? And, in which decade was this photo taken?
Please send your suggestions to history@glebesociety.org.au with Mystery Photo in the subject line.
How did you go with last month’s mystery photo?
And the answer is…
Wayne Carveth and ‘Caroline 2037’ identified the site as 158 St Johns Road, cornering Mount Vernon Street.
Caroline noted the SAAB 99 Combi Coupé parked outside. Wayne added that the photo dated from 1987 and that the building dated from 1886 when it was a butcher’s shop. It was subsequently a grocery, wine saloon, greengrocer’s and illegal betting shop, and (in the 1960s) a boot repair shop.
