By Janet Oakley, Transport and Traffic Convenor, June 2025
A public meeting has been arranged to discuss the Bridge Road Cycleway. Significant safety concerns have been raised about the Cycleway on Bridge Road.
Although work has commenced to make the Cycleway permanent, no details have been provided as to how those concerns will be addressed, despite requests addressed to various officers of Transport for NSW including current and past Ministers.
The author of a Safety Audit will be present. The Minister and local member will present as well.

Will there be further meetings about this? I was not able to get to the last one due to family commmittments, but would like to join any future meetings. Please share info as others living locally are also keen!
Dear Mr Georgiou. You spoke very powerfully at the recent public meeting about your tragic accident. We all hope that you recover from your injury very soon. To clarify any misunderstanding, the Glebe Society is a community organization. It is not in a position to initiate class actions.
My name is L. Georgiou and I was the one that stood up at the Glebe Town Hall building a couple of weeks ago and spoke up that I had a bad accident on the bikelane and pedestrian crossing on Bridge Road inbetween Glebe Point Road and Ross Street. I was left on that pedestrian crossing for 2hours before the Ambulance came in the pouring rain. I ended up with a broken left femur (metal rods through my bones) and now I’m waiting for a total hip operation. What I don’t understand here I am a person who has been badly hurt on this bikelane/pedestrian crossing and no one has bothered to contact me especially the Glebe Society because I’m the best person they can use simply because Ive been actually help. So why hasn’t anyone contacted me. Why have they taken this matter to court on a class action. I don’t believe that I’m the only one that has been hurt on this bikelane pedestrian crossing. 0432199329 my contact
If the Glebe Society is serious stop shrugging me off and start finding other people that has been hurt and place a clas action against the council and NSW Roads. All talk … So if anyone has been hurt please contact me text me first and I will jet back to you
Live local. Ride a Bike. Commute into City. Can’t wait for this to be built!
Hi I’m sorry that I did not get the pamphlet about the 6 July meeting about the Bridge St Cycle way, I would have been there if I had known. I agree that the notification about planning a cycle way in the first place during Covid times, was NON existent. I live opp. Barr st and we lost street parking, and the bus stop in front of 10 Pyrmont bridge rd is a disaster. The bus pulls in, customers have to cross the cycle way to get on the bus, pedestrians have to walk onto the cycle way to get past the bus stop.. it’s dangerous. Taxi and Uber drivers must pull up in illegal nooks to pick up/ drop off clients.. in the path of the potential cyclists ( that I never see).. Food delivery cyclists drive on the path.. they never seem to use the cycle way !!
I hardly see any cyclists on the cycle way.
I dont see why there has to be one on each side of the road. The cycle way runs out anyway closer to Glebe Pt rd.. very dangerous for cyclists to suddenly have to go out to share with traffic.
I basically HATE it. It seems we have no say in commenting on further developments with the cycleway (s).. very frustrating and disappointing that the govt. forces these things on us.
Has the Glebe Society and Paddington Society coordinated their opposition to cycleways?
I note the Oxford St cycleway is under construction – thankfully: forward thinking and creating better amenity for all in that neighbourhood.
Hopefully the sowhat tired backward, “always say no”, “closed to new ideas”, “inability to comprehend anything but the past” mindset of the Glebe society will be ignored on Bridge St – and we can build a better contemporary city with contemproary amenity enabling enjoyment for all.
Doesn’t sound very independant if you’rve hired a car advocate to advocate on behalf of cars!?
