Glebe Art Show hosts Craft Market

The final day of the Glebe Art Show, Saturday September 13, is being celebrated with a unique Craft Market outside Glebe Library.

The forecourt of the Library will be filled with a range of stalls overflowing with tempting goodies for lovers of finely made handcrafts. Each craftsperson offers a fresh creative take on products including jewellery, homewares, accessories and clothing.

This is an unusual market because it provides a rare showcase for well-established artisans whose work is usually seen in galleries or craft exhibitions. Four of those taking part are profiled here:

Denise Lithgow’s brilliant talent with textiles has been recognized by shows and awards throughout Australia.

As Denise explains, “My textile practice revolves around free flowing design and bright, vibrant colours. This approach is dispersed into different areas including silk painting, dying fabrics, machine embroidery and felting.”

Deb McGinn of Barebones Studios will present original screen printed designs across a range of home wares and clothing. Her artist’s eye and design skills translate into unique, hand made and finished products. Deb insists on natural base fabrics and water based inks. Designer, Ro Cook, has turned her experience as a versatile designer for film, events, interiors and sculpture towards a beautiful range of hand printed textiles.

Ro’s vision for the role of textiles in everyday life led to the establishment of ROKOCO Hand Printed Textiles over a decade ago. She believes art should be enjoyed in the centre of our lives; the domestic experience can be honoured and celebrated.
Ro Cook’s creations, each one a work of art, include eco dyed and printed textiles, homewares, napery and wearables that sell worldwide.

Angela Lober brings her considerable talent as a painter to her other love, resin jewellery. Colour and form are strengths in her exquisite jewellery as much as in her botanical illustrations. These may be familiar to visitors to Royal the Botanic Garden Sydney where her work has featured in the annual Botanica exhibition.

The Glebe Art Show will be held at Glebe Library and Benledi from Saturday September 6 – Saturday 13. Opening hours Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm.
