By Mary Regan, July 2025, from Bulletin 5/2025
Submissions this month included sunset and street views, and looking up! Judy Christie’s ‘Silver City Sunset’ captures the lovely shine on the Barangaroo towers, whereas John Lagerlow’s ‘Café Open’ encourages us to look upward for unusual al fresco coffee options!
Our winner this month is Caroline Lipovsky’s ‘Pole Only’, with a Sacred Ibis taking a seemingly quizzical head tilt at the myriad of wires atop a pole, neither being the prettiest of sights in our neighbourhood, but very common! Photographers often have to choose whether to remove wires and poles from their photos, lest they spoil the scene, but in this case, they make the scene!
The prize for the photograph judged the overall winner for the year is two free tickets for a Glebe Society Guided Walk or a Glebe Talks event for the following year. The winning photograph will be published in the first edition of the Bulletin next year.
The closing date for next month’s photo competition is 17 July. Please send your entries to photo-comp@glebesociety.org.au. We have some very talented local photographers, but we are very keen to see entries from more people. To make sure your entry has a chance to be featured, make sure it is a high-resolution image, and check out the rules on our website: https://glebesociety.org.au/in-focus-photo-comp-rules/
