The meeting room at Benledi was crowded on Sunday evening, 21 October, when Dr Grahame Budd repeated a talk he gave earlier in the year on Sir Douglas Mawson’s expeditions to the Antarctic and their significance, both scientifically and politically. In addition, he updated us on developments after the Second World War, particularly the role of Phillip Law.

About 40 people enjoyed Grahame’s talk, illustrated with magnificent colour slides and maps.

After his talk, Alice Simpson-Young spoke briefly about her selection as one of the thirty members of the Antarctic Youth Ambassador Program, which will see her visiting the Antarctic early next year to study the effects of climate change and become a champion for one of the world’s last remaining wilderness areas (https://www.robertswan.com/2041foundation).

The evening concluded with cheese and wine and general chat.
