It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of Neil Macindoe.

It would be difficult to overstate Neil’s contribution to the Glebe community as a member of Leichhardt Council and his many roles in the Glebe Society:

  • President: 1984–1985
  • Senior vice-president: 1983/4
  • Immediate past president: 1987
  • Management committee member: 1983–1984, 1999–2000
  • Planning subcommittee convenor: 1987–1988, 1991, 1999–2020
  • Harold Park working party convenor: 2009–2010
  • Bulletin distribution organiser: 1982–1984
  • Open spaces and trees subcommittee: 1982
  • Life member: Special General Meeting 5 May 1991

As Duncan wrote in his email to members, Neil was passionate about the preservation of Glebe and Forest Lodge’s architectural heritage and was awarded an OAM in 2012 ‘for his service to the community through the preservation of local heritage in the Glebe region and services to local government’. Our thoughts are with Jan and the family.

A memorial for Neil’s friends and family will be held on Saturday 5 July at St Helen’s Community Centre, 184 Glebe Point Road, from 5–8 pm. All are welcome.

The next Glebe Society Bulletin will share more information about Neil’s life and work.
