Celebrate the Glebe Sesquicentenary with a Rowing Regatta on Blackwattle Bay.
Saturday 29th August, starting at 10.00 a.m.
To mark their role in the sporting history of Glebe, The Glebe Rowing Club (formed in 1879) and The Sydney University Women’s Rowing Club (formed in 1967) are combining to hold a Rowing Regatta on Blackwattle Bay – the first for over ten years!
We can all be proud of Glebe’s sporting history – so come along to Blackwattle Bay Park next Saturday, cheer the rowers, and enjoy morning tea which will be provided in the Boatshed from 11 – 12 noon.
The races will start in line with the Sydney University pontoon (at the Boathouse) and finish in line with Bellevue in Blackwattle Bay Park – allowing spectators an excellent vantage point from the foreshore.
Crews from Sydney University Women’s and Glebe Rowing Clubs will race with rowers visiting from other local clubs. Men and women will race in each event.
Max Solling, author of The Boatshed on Blackwattle Bay, a history of the Glebe Rowing Club, will give a short talk on the ‘Rowers of Glebe’ in the Boatshed (at the end of Ferry Road), where there will be a display of Club memorabilia, along with morning tea from 11 – 12 noon. All are welcome.
