Some of our members might not have seen the recent press regarding Lendlease’s unsolicited proposal for a major mixed-use redevelopment at Rozelle Bay, which would include 3,500 homes.

In March Asa Wahlquist reported in the Glebe Society Bulletin that the State Government was understood to be considering plans for a major new development opposite Bicentennial Park on the other side of Rozelle Bay.

Things have clearly moved on, as The Urban Developer reported on 29 April that:

The NSW Government has progressed the development heavyweight’s proposal to Stage 2 of the assessment process as part of the broader Bays West precinct transformation in the Harbour City’s inner west … The progression allows more detailed evaluation of planning controls, design outcomes, infrastructure integration and delivery pathways for the waterfront site, which forms one of the most significant renewal areas within the harbour foreshore.

Lendlease’s website for the proposed development, Rozelle Bay, describes it in favourable terms and allows readers to register for updates. Obviously, it’s early days but if built this would have a huge impact on the existing marine businesses on the northern side of the Bay as they provide important facilities which help maintain existing services for the whole harbour.

The Sydney Heritage Fleet which is currently located here has reportedly been offered new premises at White Bay, near the White Bay Power Station  (https://www.shf.org.au/ shipyard-relocation).
