This month’s winner: ‘From My Window’ by Lucinda Loane

We have five interesting photos for you this month.

We all love that, from parts of Glebe, we can see two of Sydney’s favourite bridges, close together. Jude Paul’s ‘A Bridge Too Far’ showcases both of them all lit up. Judges commented on the strong composition and framing, with the foreshore greenery contrasting with the dark of the night.

You might do a double take when looking at Lyn Collingwood’s shot ‘Flying Gum’ capturing an arborist at work on Leichhardt Street. The diagonal lines help to lead our eyes into the top of the shot, then down to the tree.

‘Early Sunday at the Fish Market’ by Susan Ingram features the Anzac Bridge view we all know and love, on a bright blue day.

This month’s winner is Lucinda Loane. Her quirky, fun shot ‘From My Window’ puts a smile on your face, a well-framed composition contrasting nature and the urban landscape of the Sydney skyline – a very Glebe view. One of the judges recognised these two cute kookaburras, well known and loved in that pocket of Glebe.

Our judges also enjoyed ‘Big Bang Clang-a-Lang’, Virginia Simpson-Young’s shot, and noted the almost-too-rich colours as this brightly made-up tram speeds over the viaduct, and the brilliant burst of wattle showing spring has sprung in Glebe.

Congratulations to Lucinda, who will go into the running for our Photo of the Year.

Send us your photos

We are really keen to see and share your photos, particularly of interesting subjects. Please make sure your photos are very clear, high-resolution images. Sadly, we’ve not been able to accept some recent entries because they were just too blurry for publication. The picture might look OK on a phone, but not when enlarged on a screen. Before clicking the shutter or the smart-phone button, take a moment to compose your photo, set your focus and take care to keep a steady hand, and take multiple shots, to have a better chance of capturing a good shot with clear details.

You can send your photo at any time. Please email them, or any questions, to photo-comp@glebesociety.org.au. The closing date to be featured in next month’s Bulletin is Thursday 17 September. You can check out the rules here: https://glebesociety.org.au/in-focus-photo-comp-rules/
