By Dorothy Davis, Helena Klijn and Katharine Vernon, Bulletin 07/2026, September
Over the past 12 months (September to September) the Glebe Society Walks program offered great opportunities to members and others to explore our neighbourhood and beyond.
The program of eight events covered two fascinating visits to cemeteries (Camperdown and Waverley) led again by Max Solling, three well-researched heritage walks in Glebe, Annandale and Pyrmont, an extensive tour of the Sydney Heritage Fleet and the ferry Kanangra at Rozelle, plus two unusual indoor tours, the first to a Glebe photographer’s studio and home and the second, most recent, to a library/museum of Houses, Interiors and Garden Design in The Mint in Macquarie Street
Together, the Walks attracted around 160 participants, mostly Glebe Society members. The program this last year benefitted from remarkably good weather and was characterised by curiosity, conviviality and shared enthusiasm to experience the heritage aspects of our local area (and further afield to Waverley Cemetery). The charge to participants for the Walks covered expenses and made a small contribution towards the running costs of the Glebe Society.
Our special thanks to our wonderful Walks leaders who contributed so much time and expertise in planning and guiding each Walk.
