This month we feature articles about two major new developments that will affect Glebe. Neither Mirvac’s proposed old Fish Market site redevelopment nor Lendlease’s proposed Bays West–Rozelle Bay redevelopment is located in Glebe but their proximity and scale on Blackwattle and Rozelle Bays mean they will inevitably have wide impacts on the suburb — including visual change, pressure on community facilities, green space and traffic.

Both are part of the NSW Government’s push to speed up the provision of housing and streamline the planning assessment system.

All very well, but this should not mean a one-size-fits-all approach to development that takes no account of local circumstances, nor be at the expense of community engagement in planning decisions.
