The email reproduced below has been circulated by the resident’s group seeking to overturn the City Council’s project to build a switchback concrete path in "The Gully". The Glebe Society

supports the residents’ aims, and hopes the matter can be resolved in a non-confrontational manner.  We will do anything we can to help achieve this.

DEAR SUPPORTERS OF THE GULLY

Following Monday’s Council meeting, where the vote was lost to save the Gully embankment from the planned concrete switchback path, we need your support more than ever.

The most urgent problem is that the work is ongoing on site. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO STOP THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PATH.
Once the concrete is poured it will be too late.

TO DO THAT WE NEED FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS TO OCCUPY.

IF YOU CAN SPARE SOME TIME BETWEEN 7:00am-3:30pm Monday to Friday (7.00am to 12.00pm Saturday).WE WILL organize a roster and a telephone network. We can provide a shade marquee, and several chairs. You may wish to bring drinks, food, book to read etc.

WE HAVE GOOD REASON TO BELIEVE THAT IF WE KEEP UP THE PRESSURE AND SHOW THE COUNCIL THE COMMUNITY IS DETERMINED TO ENSURE THE GULLY IS RETURNED TO US AS A NATURAL AREA,  WE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL.

To PUT YOUR NAME ON THE ROSTER please contact Susan Stringfellow on 0411 044965 (text is fine) or stringfellow_susan@yahoo.com.

We wish to do this IN A NON CONFRONTATIONAL WAY and to ensure that the occupation is pleasant and successful. WE HAVE NO INTENTION ON BEING ARRESTED AND WILL WITHDRAW IF THE COUNCIL TAKE THIS APPROACH. We have already occupied the site once and workers on site were accomodating.

WE ARE PLANNING OTHER ACTIONS and will again need your help. Distributing fliers, emailing to Councillors expressing your ongoing concern, write letters to the editor, email your networks asking for support for the Gully. and more ideas!

YOUR ACTIVE SUPPORT NOW WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We want our beautiful wild natural area back.
