Glenlea: First ‘Our House’ Event Was a Sell-out Success!’

The first ‘Our House’ event was held at Glenlea, 4 Mary St Glebe on Sunday 9 July. It was a great success with 50 members enjoying the view across Blackwattle Bay on a beautiful sunshine filled Sunday afternoon in the beautifully restored Glenlea.

Centipede’s Sunset Soirée Raises Much-needed Funds

The highlight of the evening was a presentation by Snr Constable Renee Fortuna from Glebe Police, who described the program and progress of their youth initiatives at work in Glebe, that aim to encourage otherwise alienated youth to continue their education and aspire to bright futures.

Remembrance Day 2015

About 50 people stood in soft and misty rain at the Glebe Diggers Memorial on Wednesday 11 November. Glebe Society President Ted McKeown urged us to remember: Not just ‘The War to End All Wars’, but the lesson never having been learned, those subsequent Wars as well. To remember those who lost their lives, and those whose lives were blighted by physical and psychological injury. To reflect on the endurance and stoicism of those bereft and left to carry on.

The Society’s Anzac Centenary Lecture was organised to complement the theme of its Anzac Centenary Program exhibition Sacrifice, Struggle and Sorrow shown in the Southern Hall at Glebe Town Hall, October 7-23, 2015. The lecture was delivered by Professor Paul Ashton on Tuesday October 13.

The Naming of Dave Sands Lane

The opening of Dave Sands Lane that took place on Sunday 26 July. The lane, which is at the rear of 17-31 Phillip St, is the third lane that the Society has had a hand in naming, with Bernard Lane and Melina Lane preceding this one. New members were warmly welcomed to the Glebe Society at the Harold Park Hotel on July 22, a chilly evening. Introductions and reconnections were made over drinks, then eating and more drinking around tables where the challenges began!

Gale Edwards, international theatre director, led a highly successful Glebe Voices at the Blackwattle Café on 18 February. The capacity crowd, sitting in every nook and cranny (including the outside areas, peering in through doorways), listened enthralled to Gale’s account of her career in theatre.
Soiree for Centipede 2014

The annual ‘Sunset Soiree’ for Centipede was held on Friday 7 November at the Glebe Rowing Club. A little over 50 people in attendance enjoyed live music provided by local chanteuse Hannah Robinson, the well-chosen words of Glebe Public School’s principal Vicki Pogulis and a most convivial evening under the full moon.
Glebe Street Fair 2014

Despite a worrying downpour of rain the 31st anniversary of the Glebe Street Fair saw the expected thousands of visitors head to Glebe Point Rd to enjoy free entertainment across three stages, more than 250 stalls and the 100 or so businesses that line the street.
