Report on 2025 AGM

by Jude Paul, Secretary

Our 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Sunday 14 September at the Community Hall, Tramsheds.

As per our constitution, Duncan was required to stand down as President because he has served for two years. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive any nominations for either President or Vice President and so we hope these positions can be temporarily filled on a casual basis. Our Management Committee meeting in October will address this.

Of our elected office bearers, Jane Gatwood and Jude Paul continue respectively as Treasurer and Secretary. Both celebrate their 10th anniversary in these positions. Three of our four Ordinary Members continue in this role (Tim Hesketh, Angela Hallinan and Mark Stapleton) with member Fiona Hollier taking up the fourth position which became vacant following Glen Powell’s resignation.

Our guest speaker was Scott MacArthur, President of the Marrickville Heritage Society. In his professional role, Scott is a heritage architect, specialising in the adaptive reuse of historic places. Scott spoke about the challenges facing many societies such as our own and Marrickville’s, particularly in trying to engage a broad range of members to actively contribute to the conduct of the Society’s ‘business’. Scott seemed quite envious of our turn-out for the AGM – 44 members!
