Glebe Voices – Brooke Green, musician – 25th May

GLEBE VOICES

Brooke Green, early music specialist, composer, and director of Josie and the Emeralds, will present at Glebe Voices, at 4.30 p.m. till 6.00 p.m. on Saturday 25th May, at Ombretta Restaurant (formerly La Tavolaccia) 355 Glebe Point Road.

The topic:

The development of the viol (viola da gamba) will be traced from its medieval origins to the early 17th century.  A forerunner to the viol, the vielle, will be demonstrated and some contemporary works for viol consort will be introduced.

Brook Evans has performed internationally.  She is a graduate of Sydney and Indiana universities.

Drinks and antipasti will be available for purchase at the restaurant.  Note that the event must finish by 6pm to allow Ombretta to set up for its dinner guests.

Off Broadway!  Exploring the Art of Chippendale

Join a tour of interesting art galleries in Chippendale, including the White Rabbit Gallery, and discover this special art precinct – all within a few minutes’ walk from Broadway.  We’ll visit 4 or 5 very different galleries and have lunch at one of them.

Saturday, 1st June.

12.00 – 4.30pm

Cost is $25 including delicious light lunch with coffee/tea/soft drinks at the Mission Café.

Thirsty Thursday – Sushi-Ya – Thursday 6th June

Members and friends are invited to meet in restaurants in and around Glebe, usually on the first Thursday of each month at 7pm, to eat and talk with other people who live in Glebe. We visit a different restaurant each month, with varying cuisines.

Our next event will be on Thursday 6th June when we will share a meal at the Sushi-Ya, 166 Glebe Point Road, Glebe. Please email Edwina Doe or call her on 9660 7066 at least 24 hours before the dinner to let her know if you are coming, or if you are likely to be late.

 


Glebe Voices – Tranby Aboriginal College – 8th July

GLEBE VOICES AT TRANBY

Tranby Aboriginal College in Mansfield Street is Australia’s oldest Indigenous education provider, operating for some 55 years.  A not-for-profit co-operative, the College has seen thousands of students graduate and go on to make lasting changes in their lives and those of their families and communities.

Darlene Hoskins-Mackenzie, Interim Chair of the Board of Directors, will lead a Glebe Voices session at the College during NAIDOC week and introduce the work of the College and its plans for the future including strengthening ties with the local community.
