RSS

RSS is a way of receiving frequently changing web content. It allows you to stay informed without constantly visiting the site.

There are several ways of subscribing to RSS feeds.

  • Most recent web browsers have an RSS reader built in. Simply go to the web site which has the RSS feed (such as this one) and click on the RSS symbol (). The current RSS feeds will be displayed. You can bookmark this page for later viewing.
  • Many email programs, like Outlook 2007 and Thunderbird, have RSS readers built in. Usually, there will be an RSS option in the Account Settings menu item. Simply, follow the prompts and insert the URL of the page with the RSS feed. You will then be notified of new postings, just like email.
  • There are also a number of specialised feed reader programs including Amphetadesk (for Windows, Linux and Mac) and FeedReader (Windows) and web-based feed readers including My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader.
